                 On September 10, 1946, when Mother Teresa was traveling by train from Calcutta to Darjeeling, she saw outside the window helpless, poor, downtrodden, sad women, men and children. They had no food, no clothing, no shelter. Seeing this, his heart became very sad. His life got a new inspiration. From that moment he left the glorious surroundings of Loreto and took up the task of serving the helpless poor on the footpaths.

Missionaries of Charity

                  Mother Teresa was canonized by the Pope in 1950. On October 7, 1950, the lamp of ‘Missionaries of Charity Sisters’ was lit. An old Dharamshala behind the Kali Temple of Kalighat for the downtrodden was given to Mother Terrace by the Nagar Sabha of Calcutta for an ashram.
